| o_history | Was married to Hanna Youngs and was apparently was one of
the Perfectionists or Little Band" who were "gathered" in the
Ostrander house in Albany in 1841-3, and 16 of them (including
children) came to the Shakers in 1843.

16 Jul 1844 Elder Calvin Wells resigned as SF elder and
went to NF to live and Nathaniel went to live with him.

13 May 1848 Nathaniel and three more of Rebecca Jack-
son's disciples come to see us. (VB-307 SF)
18 Jul 1870 Went to live with Elder Sylvester at NF.

1 May 1871 Becomes Elder of NF. (VB-338 CF)
1876-1891 Author of NF Journal VB-347. Besides being
elder, made soap for family & cultivated strawberries.
2 Nov 1880 Went to Albany to collect an inheritance of
$885.38 from New Hampshire. (VB-347)
21 Jul 1883 Elder Nathaniel of NF (80 years old) has
cancer cut from his face. (DAB) Nathaniel in his journal called it
a "cancer wort."
28 Jul 1883 Had cancer near left ear removed in Albany
15 Oct 1883 Helped do the wash; made barrel of soap
29 Dec 1883 Carried 74 pails of wash water
17 Jun 1885 He and Josiah Barker are fixing waterworks
19 Jun 1885 He is hoeing potatoes.
20 Jun 1885 Begins picking strawberries.
23 Aug 1885 Making a pair of shoes for James.
3 Sept 1886 He is picking hops.
31 Aug 1887 Doing the churning.
15 Sep 1887 He and Thomas Beal are helping sisters make
chow chow.
4 Aug 1891 Is 88 today. Repairing shoes and mending
harness. (Above items all from VB-347)
26 May 1892 Elder Nathaniel of NF died. (Isaac
Anstatt's Journal; VB-314 SF)
It was after his death that there were so few left at the
NF and no one of leadership ability, that the remaining five
sisters and one brother moved to the CF and the people from
Groveland, which it had been decided to close, moved into the NF
buildings.
