id 130 firstname Elmer Irving lastname Greenwood birthyr 1876 deathyr 1939 bio Greenwood, Elmer Irving (1876-1939), of Canterbury, NH, was born in Providence, RI, son of an engineer. He entered the Canterbury community in 1886, and signed the covenant in 1897. He installed electric wiring in the village in 1910 and built a powerhouse or generating station (it housed a steam generator and several wet cell batteries, had pressed metal siding, and a stone and cement foundation). He also maintained and provided up-to- date radios and automobiles, and was one of the village photographers. In addition to all these activities he became Lead Minister in January, 1933. He served in this position until his death. (He was the last Brother to be in the Ministry, the last Shaker to plane poplar - to help out the Sisters with their poplarware industry, and the last Brother living in his village.) villageplus Canterbury.
