He was first brought to Canterbury as a child, September 13, 1819, where he worked in the garden, and participated in the herb industry and marketing. He was appointed 2nd Elder of the Maine Ministry November 28, 1859, and served there to 1867 (when appointed trustee with Hewett Chandler). Meanwhile he was also appointed elder of the North F., Sabbathday Lake [Poland Hill] for one year, on October 11, 1865. He was chosen moderator at a school meeting March 30th, 1876, and lived at the Church F., Sabbathday Lake, ME, in July, 1886. He was in charge of hiring the farmhands, purchasing seeds and grain needed for cultivation, and producing sage and other herbs and pickles, for market and family use. In addition, he was "the first postmaster of record at the West Gloucester Post Office" (Sr. Bertha Lindsay, 1979); he retired from that post in 1887. villageplus Canterbury. NH
