She was also an assistant eldress in the Gathering F., Poland Hill (Sabbathday Lake) ME, for one year (1856-1857). She served as family deaconess until 1872, and was listed as trustee in 1873-1874, 1879, 1881, and as office sister in 1886. She received a gift song in February, 1887. Sr. R. Mildred Barker was seven when she arrived at the Shakers in 1903, and served the much revered Sr. Paulina with morning chores and errands for two years, until Paulina's final illness. It is to her that little Mildred promised to become a Shaker.
