She was one of four Whitmore children who were among the nineteen orphan children accepted by the South Union Shakers from a "Refugee home" about to close in Clarksville, TN, on June 1, 1865. She was a member of the East F. in 1870, and of the Center F. in 1880-1883, 1885-1889 and 1900. She might have been head of the culinary department or a kitchen deaconess, or might have served in the capacity of a nurse. She was called "Miss Sabriney" by the towns people in Auburn.
