| bio | Dutcher, Lavinia (1830-1923), of the North F., WatelVliet, NY, was originally a member of the Groveland, NY,
community and a family deaconess in charge of the little girls. After that community closed she joined the WatelVliet
Shakers when 62 years of age and lived in the Second House. When the North F. closed in 1919, she moved to the
South F. She was described as "a small, frail, sweet person," by Trudy R. Sherburne, and as having a "cheerful,
happy disposition." According to Anna Goepper, at 90 she was still "able to clean her room and bathe herself and
make her bed."
