id 229 firstname Mother Rebecca (Junior) lastname Perot birthyr 1818 deathyr 1901 bio Perot, Mother Rebecca "Junior," of Philadelphia, PA, was believed to be 83 years old at her death in 1901. She was Mother Rebecca Jackson's (1795-1871) disciple and friend. Both Rebeccas went to live at the Gathering Order of Watervliet, NY, in 1847, left for Philadelphia by 1852, and returned to Watervliet for a short while in 1857. About one year later Sister Rebecca Jackson received Eldress Paulina Bates' approval "to start her mission in Philadelphia." According to the census taken in 1860, both Rebeccas were listed as women domestics. Rebecca Perot succeeded Rebecca Jackson (Cox) as the leader of the Philadelphia Shaker family after the death of the latter in 1871; however, she called herself Rebecca Jackson at least several months before that, thus contributing to the confusion of the identity of the two! This later Rebecca Jackson (Perot), joined the other aging Philadelphia sisters already living at Watervliet, NY, in 1896; she died in 1901.
