jail.
30 1854 Charles appeared in court for arraignment; admitted all
they positively knew but cleared his father, although no one
believed his father was not involved. On 5 Jan 1855, Charles
sent to State Prison at Clinton for 10 years. (PAB)
14 Dec 1854 Ella Benedict, a four-year old orphan, brought
from Cohoes by a man and his wife. (Taken in at SF but moved to
CF Jan. 20, 1855 and lived there until she died in 1921. Her
funeral was conducted by John McBain, an undertaken in Water-
vliet, and his hearse took her body to the cemetery.)
9 Feb 1855 C. Copley and C. Miller went to see some land on
the Kayderosserass Mts. in Saratoga Cy., for sale at $4.50 per

8 Mar 1855 Packed 75 dozen bonnets in two boxes and CM took
them to NYCity. (PAB)
2 Jun 1855 "In the morning a child was found in a basket at
the end of the lane by-Mary (who came to help us). Was a little
girl about 3 months old, it had only 5 rags on, an empty baby
bottle, and scrap of paper pinned on basket said "Please take
this child to adopt it was your own Mr. Shaker." Two brethren
went to poormaster in Troy and he came to see about it but Mary
had taken it home. He wanted her to keep itja a week, hoping to

17 July 1855 "We had 12 for dinner in dining room above, 12
hired men below, and it is so hot and the flies so thick in the
kitchen, it is hardly endurable. To put the nub on, Abby Godard
with her school of 64 girls of all ages came. They had their
victuals with them and ate under the great willow by the old
house. Girls carried ice water and milk to them; 12 ladies and
4 drivers (with them) came in and had a cup of tea." {PAB)

8 Feb 1856 A little boy named William Smith came, said his
parents were both dead. We sent him to the shop, Elder Brother
put him "on trial." (PAB)
9 Feb 1856 The father and stepmother of the boy that came
yesterday came looking for him. The father had been looking a
couple of days. (PAB)
23 Feb 1856 Elizabeth Ostrander, 12 years old, brought by her
mother and taken on trial. (PAB)
10 Mar 1856 John Decker, Elder Sister and Mercy Harwood went
to Brunswick, 6 miles beyond Troy, to return Elizabeth Ostrander
to her mother, "not thinking she was very bright." (PAB)
5 Oct 1856 Sylvester, ES and Lucy went in the woods after
a woman that has been there a day or so. (PAB)
6 Oct 1856 CM went to West Troy to poormaster and requested
him to come after the woman who is now staying in the shed cham-
ber; can hardly tell whether she is crazy or not.
7 Oct 1856 Poormaster came after the woman. "She is an old
customer. She had run away from the poorhouse once this summer
and been in Lansing's woods and kept a fire for 2 weeks." (PAB)

keeping and to be under the care and attention of the physician.
