the men's house to eat and warm themselves and stole William Gil-
roy's coat and comforter. Thomas Gillroy pursued, and with some
of the neighbors, caught the oldest man who had the comforter on.

21 Dec 1867 Justice Cole sentenced the man to 3 months in

12 Sept 1868 Rained 4 1/2 inches. Dam at SF mill pond broke
and let water off into CF pond with such a rush that it flooded
the CF Office cellars and some inches in the kitchen. Sisters
began sweeping and mopping before 4 a.m. and managed to get
breakfast for the hired men. Six bridges over the creek in the

9-10 Oct 1868 James Irving, photographer from Troy, came with
covered wagon with his apparatus for taking stereotype view of
buildings and all the brethren and sisters he can get out of

31 Dec 1868 C. Miller, C. Copley, John Decker and Daniel
Sherman start for the woods in Saratoga County that belong to the
CF and NF. " They own 400 acres up there somewhere." To be gone

17 July 1869 Maria Treadway drowned herself in the pond about
4 a.m. Was found to be missing from her room in the infirmary
about 4:30. Body found in about 6 ft. of water, 3 rods from
shore. Three of the brethren went out in a boat, got her by the
clothing and towed her to shore. C. Miller went to West Troy for
coroner. He came and summoned a 6-man jury - 3 of brethren and 3
hired men. Verdict: death by drowning in a fit of insanity.(DAB

Commissioner of Internal Revenue. The authorities have decided
not to exempt by $1000 for each family or society at the most.
We must pay 5 cents on every $ we receive to the government....
Sisters not excepted after deducting what we pay out to get the
