23 Feb 1871 C. Miller starts for Illinois. (He had been mak-
ing annual trips to oversee this property since they acquired
it, hiring someone in Illinois to run it.) Now he is going to
rent it for 5 years to a man named Watson from this area; Watson's
family has already gone on ahead.
17 May 1871 "We have a post office established at our Office
and mail comes direct to the door via Morrisville." (DAB)
28 July 1871 Senator Pruyn, wife, family and five from
Washington came for a ride, look around, bought a few things in
the store. (PAB)
13 Aug 1871 "There never was such a splendid concourse of
people - they could/ notjall get in the Meeting House. Senator
Pruyn's wife was here with the Duke of something or other and
five young Englishmen having some grand names such as Lord, Earl

25 Feb 1872 Spiritualists had a convention in Troy. George
A. Lomas of Watervliet "occupied the pulpit" in the afternoon;
Elder Frederick Evans of Mt. Lebanon, in the evening. Peebles,
a special friend of the Shakers, spoke in the morning; after-
wards he and another came to the CF and met with the Society,
"had a profitable meeting with them. They botvt spoke some, after
which we exercised two songs in the step manner, two in the march
and two in the slow march. Also sung two or three solemn songs
while facing in." (DAB)
26 Feb 1872 Had an auction at CF South Farm. Benjamin Starks
and Graham were both leaving. Graham has not paid the rent and
^ the auction is for that purpose. C. Miller will rent the farm to

23 Mar 1872 Another Spiritualist convention at Lyceum Hall,
Troy. Six CF members attended, 4 from NF, 4 from WF, and 5
from SF. About same number expected from Lebanon, Harvard and

19 Aug 1872 DAB busy printing seed bags - needs to print
300,000 - and 400,000 bags and papers.
6 Sept 1872 Thievery last night of clothes, towels, shirts,
etc. Have been stcfealing at NF too last night and night before.

9 Sept. 1.872 Homer S-trong, .a neighbor, robbed last night. The
two r.obbers knocked him down, breaking his thigh,, went into house
demanding frqm^wjufflen the key to the money drawer., Not getting
it,., they brought Homer into the house and got $40. from him. (DAB)

being" attacked by two men in the woods beyond the WF, One man
grabbed the horse's head, while other jumped into the wagon.
c28 Oct 1872 WF barns - grain and cow barn, sheep barn, car-
riage house and shed - all burned. Set on fire in three places.
Lost 4 wagons, all their sleighs, thrashing mill, all their grain
