they shot the dog. The next day Elder Josiah and Eldress Anna
were phoned and asked to come to the hospital* No one from the CF
had been in to see Angeline except Josephine Hewitt who offered
to go to the hospital with her. "Angeline said she was the only
CHRISTIAN on the place up there." She wanted some clothes and to
tell the Trustees it would be necessary for her to stay 8-10
days. Anna co^mments "Another big hospital bill for Elder Josiah
to pay, all unnecessary if there was any order or obedience but
Libby and Elder Mary Nelson's sister from outside, Mrs. Sam Fel-
lows, just simply run the place up there." A week later, she
notes that Hugo took Eldress Anna again and Ella Benedict of CF
to see Angeline. "Eldress Mary Nelson and Libbie DeLong have
never been to see Angeline but have gone to Schenectady to see
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Fellows and spend the day." Angeline finally
ca^me home after 20 days.
17 July 1916 "The object of the Ministry's last visit {July 6-
10) was to straighten up matters, if possible, at the CF - Ange-
line Cox, Libbie DeLong and the dog subject."
1 Sept 1916 Eldress Anna and Elder Josiah go to Albany to hire
a cook for the CF Office. (This would be to cook for the hired
men. )
4 Mar 1917 (Sun.) Elder Josiah not there for dinner. He has been
"quite miserable all week and he has so much burden." Are trying
to sell WF property; NF foreman is getting things in a mess
there, and he certainly does not have a congenial group at the
CF.
15 May 1917 Elder Josiah and Eldress Anna go to Lebanon to see
Ministry about "broken down and bankrupt condition" the foreman
has left the NF in; "stole and broke everything he could lay his
hands on."
The Enfield. Conn. Society closed in 1917 and Eldress
Caroline Tate and Lucy Bowers moved to the SF.
Thanksgiving, 1917 Ella Benedict, Adelaide Inghara and Elder
Josiah come from CF for afternoon and supper.

31 Aug 1918 "Folks to CF to can tomatoes; peeled 175 bushels
for us and 35 bushels for CF."
18 Sept 1918 Sister Susannah or Anna Rooney, 83 years old, died
at CF. Has been in bed 10 weeks with trained nurse at $115 per
week. Has lived at CF 3 years, coming from White Water, Ohio
Shakers when they disbanded.
13 Feb 1919 George Dahm is to build a garage for Elder Josiah
at the CF.
15 Feb 1919 Elder Josiah has had hiccoughs since yesterday
a.m. Has doctor.
17 Feb 1919 Take Elder Josiah to another doctor. He will stay
at SF until he is better, will occupy visitor's room.
20 Feb 1919 Slowly improving, hiccoughs finally stopped. James
Tribley, Fred Tribley and Fred Willey come every day or so to get
orders from Elder Josiah as the hired hands at CF. One of men
stays with Josiah at night.
9 Mar 1919 Josiah finally comes to breakfast in dining room.
10 Mar 1919 Martin Ahl here for his wages from Elder Josiah.
He is the herdsman at CF and expects soon to marry Henrietta
