worked there quite a while.
18 Mar 1919 Elder Josiah and Hugo have early breakfast and go
to Schenectady by car, then take train to Syracuse and on to
Cort-^land to buy 5 Holstein-Freisian cows. Two are for SF, 2
for CF, 1 for Schairer. Josiah is still staying at SF. Goes
back to CF on March 27.
4 July 1919 Had picnic supper on SF lawn with decorations,
Victrola music, etc. Elder Josiah, Adelaide and Ella Benedict
from CF were there.
9 Aug 1919 Lebanon Ministry came to tell SF that NF was to be
broken up. They think it "best for the NF to move here as they
would not go to the CF and the CF did not want them. They felt
they would not be treated right at the CF." SF agreed to take
them.
8 Nov 1919 Eliza Willey, wife of Fred Willey, foreman at CF,
here daughter Eva and a lady friend were out for an auto ride and
Mrs. Willey's car stalled on trolley tracks. Trolley coming,
Mrs. Willey jumped out and waved but trolley struck car and
smashed it against a pole or tree, hurt Eva's back and broke her
nose, broke woman"s arm and three ribs. As Mrs. Willey had no
license to drive, she got nothing from trolley company or no in-
surance - dead loss. Has left Mrs. Willey a nervous wreck.
12 Nov 1919 Henrietta Ahl, who lived in "Church's Orchard near
the house" was assaulted in her house at 4:30 p.m. by a man de-
manding money. Grabbed by throat, knocked down, kicked, etc.
Scared away by friends who arrived on motorcycle. Her husband is
in Albany Hospital with broken leg from motorcycle accident. She
is now staying in CF Office where her sister is working.
25 Dec 1919 Had entertainment in evening and Angeline Cox,
Barbara Hooper, Harriet Jones, Julia McNally, Ella Benedict, Ade-
laide Ingham and Elder Josiah came from CF.
25 May 1921 Ella Benedict died at CF, aged 72. Funeral con-
ducted by undertaker from Watervliet (first time this was indi-
cated). His hearse took body to cemetery.
24 July 1921 Barbara Hooper of CF 74 years old. Recently made
a trip to Philadelphia to see relatives, going and coming alone.
25 Oct 1921 Elder Josiah died of "neuralagia of the heart."
27 Oct 1921 Josiah's funeral. Delegations from Lebanon and
Hancock. About 100 or more outsiders, oak casket, 12 autos fol-
lowed hearse to cemetery.
31 Oct 1921 Had been arranged by Lebanon Ministry with
Eldreses Anna and CF that Hugo Strobel was to take charge of
hired hands at CF and run the farm. All seemed to agree. "Today
Julia McNally came downjf on a special pilgrimage to inform
Eldress Anna that Fred Willey, Eldress Mary Nelson, Libby DeLong
and herself would attend to and run their own place, they did
not want any of our help and wished we would mind our own busi-
ness. So Eldress Anna said they would drop everything until the
ministry's return." Abbie Bartlett came to SF store in afternoon
and visited Anna Goepper and told her it was Eldress Mary and
Libby DeLong ("the coarse specimens of h umanity") who told SF
to mind their own business. ^
23 Nov 1921 After much discussion with Ministry Elders, it was
agreed that CF would run their own affairs. Elder Mary wanted
