BRICK SHOP


Built in 1822, 4 rooms on each floor with center hall
Bujilder's plaque in basement gives date & name of contractor

When built, referred to by David A. Buckingham as "young brethren's
shop" and they i ived there.
Later the 1st floor was apparently used as a shop and the 2d as
I i v i ngquarters:
In 1836 Elder Benjamin Train moved in
In 1843 Benjamin Youngs moved out of this building into the
Old Office on opposite side of street
It was then occupied by "youth" - whether this meant
older boys or younger berethren, not known
In 1877 stil! housed youths

In 1854 was ransacked by burglars, along with Yellow or Herb Shop
and Garden Shop.
Burglars apparently thought that, since they dealt with "world"
in these shops, there might be money.

In 1868 "David Hawkins1 shop" was fixed up for a dentist
Probably the northwest corner.

Prior to 1859 was used as tailor shop by F.S. Wicker. He died
in 1859 and then DABuckingham tried to do tailoring.

Also used by shoemaker, whenever they could borrow one from one
of the other families or hire one to come in and work for a
