The firstpages of this book detail work done by the sisters in 1830, 1831, bnd by the author
(whom I believe to be folly Vedder) in 1834, 1835 and 1837.

Then a journal begins - not always for every day, apparently just the more important events.

25 Feb "Elizabeth Train who has been deranged for several days, last night she jumped off
Wed. the roof of the porch and went to the Meeting House and made a good deal of
distorbance."
2 Apr "Perry Younghans left here this morning, being weary of the cross. "
9 Apr "1 go to the South Family. " (Perhaps to instructthem in bonnets.)
21 Apr "Harvey Copley has made up his mind and started in pursuit of pleasure but we are
sure that he has carried nothing good with him."
6 May Abigail Messenger came here to live.
13 May "Two unclean members have been sent off from the 2d Family, viz. Caroline Chapman
and Hannah Button."
20 May Freegift and Elder Bro. David Hawkins set out a elm tree by the graves of Mother Ann
and Father William. (They have justbeen reinterred in the main cemetery.)
16 June I went to the WF to teach them how to make bonnets (weaving palm leaf).
23 June 1 went to the SF to teach them how to make bonnets.
13 July Eliza Wells has gone to the NF to be Elder Sister and Caroline has gone to the
office to take her place.
14 July Judith Rich is released from thecare of the girls and Moriah Gillet has taken her place
6 Aug ' Luther and Ransom Park came here to live.
10 Aug James Sherman went tothe world.
17 Aug Henry Kirk has been taken to his mother in Troy "for we did not want him. "
Lydia Pemberton came here to live.
25 Aug Robert Younghans and Jacob Simon have withdrawn from the Society.
23 Oct "There was a drove of cattle passed our village this afternoon - 474. "
22 Dec "1 understand Freegift nas quit chewing tobacco. This I callgood news."
"I made 30 bonnets in Jan., 30 in Feb., 30 in March, 20 in April, 60 in May,
80 in June, 64 in July, 70 in Aug., 42 in Sept., 54 in Oct., 86 in Nov., 34 in

3 Jan (Sun) "We had a beautiful meeting again this morning which was attended with much
humiliation, weeping and repentance. .It continued 1 1/2 hours. We also had an
excellent meeting this afternoon, it also continued,] 1/2 hours."
12 Jan "This evening itwas concluded for Brother Freegift to go to Ohio, sad news to us
all , you may depend . "
20 Jan Freegift'went to Albany and bought some things for his journey
31 Jan "This month I have been sewing. 1 have made 10 caps. .. My next business is to help
fix Bro. Freegift's clothes. I have made 1 shirt, 2 pairs of drawers,7 white handker-
chiefs and had a great many things to fixand help make his frock."
5 Mar "Ihave been cutting out bonnets by the new patterns that Freegiftmade and 1 like
them very much . "
