29 Dec Sisters have washed 2 boxes of glass, one 9x 15, other 9x 11 to make
new outside sashes to keep cold out. He is making sashes, "tinning" and
puttying glass.

19 Jan Morrell (Baker) died.
20 Jan "Br. Austin (Buckingham) and I worked at Morrell1 s coffin but did not get
the cover made."
21 Jan "Finished the coffin this forenoon and put the corpse into it about 11.
Attended funeral at 2. A rainy day which rendered it quite uncomfortable
to go to the grave etc,"

7 Feb Br. Austin and myself made Frederick's coffin, got it done before 4.
14 Mar "Been at the mill running tbelittle wheel and making calculations about the
Mon. gearing to bring the speed of my buzz saw right. Afternoon made a pail of
mason's putty and cleaned the hired men's clock which was uncommonly
dirty and nasty."
15 Mar Worked at clocks again. Got out some more stuff for drawers etc.
16 Mar Made a door for the cookroom pantry and repaired pair of spectacles.
17 Mar Tried out most of the stuff for 13 small drawers for Isaac s bench and
put the door which I made yesterday in its place.
18 Mar A rainy day. Plastered Frederic's blackboard in the boys' shop.
13 Apr Made some bonnet patterns for Elizabeth. (f^^.jj^^^^y^^
2 May "In commemoration of the second anniversay of my releasement from the
office of Elder Brother of this family, I have started my new buzz saw in
my lathe room..."
10 May Worked at an old tub, preparing it for a new bottom, making eht bottom, etc.
18 May Repaired a case of shelves for Almira.
19 May Put a new bottom in a pail. Hel^ped Thomas with a dovetail box.
26 May Filed ansj^t 4 fine saws.
13 June Making circle of planks and boards for a foundation for a well under the
extract house which is to be laid up with brick 4 feet in the clear.
Put about 6 pails of strong suds on my 19 hills of watermelons.
16 June Turned 2 sets of table legs.
11 July Buzzed out some stuff for a small trundle bedstead for Caroline, dz^^s)
14 July Buzzed out some stuff for Albert's^window blinds, also some ash stuff for
horse rake teeth. #V/>
30 July Been making a shelf and pinboard for Marian Treadway to go overhead in
the Deaconesses clothesroom.
5 Aug Last night watched with Br. Francis GOOVIC.I&U- who suffers much distress
Fri. by turns. ^
8 Aug Stayed with Br. Francis all day and had a busy time of it.
11 Aug Br. Francis ""died at 3:10 p.m. Soon .after he was laid out, Charles and
myself began his coffin.
12 Aug Finished the coffin in forenoon and put the corpse into it soon after dinner
13 Aug Put 2 more flynet frames together this a.m. for the physician's to put in
the brother's sickroom. Francis1 funeral at 2:30.
15 Sept "Frederic and his boys have all rode out and I am left without anyone to
help me. So I have wrote some and made a fly cracker (swatter) out of a
part of Sneden's tail who died a short time ago."
27 Sept Made a coffin for Br. Channing^who died last evening. Br. Austin and

6 Oct Thomas's sister Martha came to see him and stayed nearly all day.
7 Oct Thomas fell from a chesnut tree this a.m. and hurt himself considerably.
27 Oct Spent considerable part of the day cleaning and repairing a clock for the
cookroom at the office.
28 Oct Ground and whet some of Frederic's knives for cutting bags etc. and set
12 panes of glass.
