13 June Brethren working on the highway mostly along their own premises; "from our burying
ground towards Blair's Tavern."
14 June Mary Wells and daughter came to see Nancy. Talks of leaving daughter.
Reuben Treadway came to see his children.
19 June Alexanderand Andrew Brown's mother came today tosee them.
25 June C. Miller took his mother, who has been here at the Office a week or more, to the
railroad on her way home.
29 June Thurlow Weed and a number of others visited today.
4 July "The family remain at home, pretty much. It being the 4th of July, a day of great
pomp and bustle among the world. "
8 July * The brethren begin haying. The arrangement concerning the brethren's work is this:
considering the necessity of continuing with other kinds of work, all cannot turn out
to help hay. Therefore Frederick, C. Miller, Willoughby (Green), Jeremiah and
Dorephus will remain In the gardens except to help with unloading; Georage Price will
remain in the shop; WMIard at the carding work/ Lorin & Luther at the milland Jesse
& William working on the frame of the woodhouse. When unloading, Jesse, William,
Willoughby and Dorephus w i l lunload at North Barn and Sheep Barn; Frederick, Charles,
George and Jeremiah will unload at Office Barn, South Barn and old Office Barn .
C. Copley, Clarissa Vedder amd Elizabeth Seely started down the river to Peterskill
to settle some business concerning Elizabeth's property.
9 July Four girls and 3 boys were added to the CF, viz: Sarah, Frances, Adelaide, John &
Joseph Ingham and Margaret and Orin Bates. Sarah is about 16 years and has gone in
the meeting room to live; the rest alllive in the children's order.
Two girls went to the NF to live- Anna Bates and Mary Jane Mapes.
16 July Elder Calvin V/etfs, resigned as elder at SF and went to NF to live and NathaVtiel Fry
went to live with him at NF.
22 July All the hands that have been haying went down to the River Farm to begin haying there.
DAB went along "to assistinhaying and help keep good order and regulation. "
6 Aug This day is keptin commemoration of Mother Ann's landing In America. We rose at
4 am, took breakfast at 5:30 and had meeting at 7. After this the family attended to
their usual business "but with ^particularreverence to the day in thought and meditation. "
16 Aug Some of Thomas Edwards' relatives came here, today to see Thomas' children (he has gone
to NYCIty). "They appear enemies to the faith of Believers and strive to gather the
feel ings of the children, toentice them to the w o r l d . "
21 Aug Alexander Brown, about 13, fell from the garret of the seed barn to the floor below. He
and 2-3 other boys were playing, pull ing down the nests of mud wasps, the trap door was
open and he accidentally stepped through it. "His neck was dislocated" (pbably broken)
and he I ived about 20 minutes. " Funeral next day.
26 Aug Charles Preter came and stayed over the Sabbath. He formerly lived at Union Village,
Ohio, had some difficulty with the world's people there and came to this part of the
world for safety and a home. He first went to Hancock, then to New Lebanon and
finally here, for a privilege. Obtained a home at SF.
27 Aug "Gustavus Simmons has been about here today. He broke Into a small building on our
north farm occupied by Thomas Walda, a hired man. Thomas caught him examining his
watch and therefore took him as a thief and brought him to the Office and turned him
over to Stanton. Gustavus and the boy with him were both somewhat frightened and
begged for quarter, Was finally sertt off with the warning not to be seen about here again
