20 Mar Ferguson finished a 4th waterwheel for them. They now have one wheel forthe sawmill,
two for gristor grinding/ and the 4th for running machinery, circulaw saws, etc.
21 Mar A petition came for them to sign to establish a post officein town again--to be at
Lewis MDrris's.
22 Mar Since a bill to repeal the 'Trust Act 1 had been introduced by Clark and already read
three times /they decided that "if again called up,to introduce an amendment and, if
possible, to better our cause instead of losing what we have already gained. " The
amendment was that "whenever the office of Trustee becomes vacant by death or removal
other appointed by the constitutional authority of the Society shall take their places in
regular successorship, vested with the same privileges as their predecessors. "
28 Mar "The snow has pretty much disappeared. The little birds sing and play upon their harps
of sweet melody and appear delighted with the approach of spring. " ,
2 Apr "Jonathan Slosson lies at the point o^-eteath. We expect he w i l l
soon-G^sTto enjoy
a better and more durable home , "
5 Apr "Ann Bradley, a young girl at the WF died lastnight or on the approach of morning.
Her funeral will probably be tomorrow morning. "
"Jonathan Slosson seems to be reviving again and may survive some days yet."
9 Apr Jonathan Slosson died yesterday and was buried today. "He closed his I ife in peace
and quietness and was an example of patience and meekness, worthy of Imitation by a l ! . "
15 Apr "A sad accident happened at the 5F thismorning. Azariah Wilber got one of his eyes
put out; it was occasioned by a si Iver flying from a whipstock and striking in his eye. "
18 Apr Vary Gillet left the Society and was taken to Troy.
21 Apr It Is a very sickly timehere and at the NF with typhus and lung fevers--a general time
of illhealth,
22 Apr We set out a quantity of hard maples that Stanton bought on the south and east sides of
the road leading to the Center Square.
23 Apr Brother Archibald Meacham is verysick and appears to be near his end.
24 Apr C. Copley and I went to Buel's nursery and got three fir trees,one of which was planted
in the center of the Center Square.
4 May The Church Family (both 1st and 2d Orders) assemble at the Holy Feast Ground to par-
take of the yearly feast, etc.
10 May Bro. A chibald died. "His disease was c a l l e d the
lung fever, but a few of his last
days he was visited bvsudden chills, like fever and ague. Thus closes the days of
another good man which, no doubt, causes great rejoicing in heaven, but tribulation
upon earth for his help and assistance was still much needed in the Office where he
resided as an assistant tothe Trustees,"
1 1 May The 2d and South Families assemble in the Holy Ground or Center Square to attend the
yearly feast.
Archibald's funeral. 2d and SF elders and deacons attended v/ith the CF at the Meeting
House and followed the corpse to the grave. Both brethren and sisters went to the grave
which has not happened for a long time, the weather usually not permitting it.
13 May Did more fixing of trees around the Center Square and planted a yellow pine at Father
Joseph's Fountain.
14 May DAB took five little boys tothe SF so they might visit theirparents and relations. They
were George W. and William Edwards, John and Samuel Ingham and Orin Bates.
19 May John Scott bled badly from the nose last night and was taken again today and "bled
profusely at both nose and mouth and it was with great difficulty he was prevented
from bleeding to death." J
20 May This evening at the sawmill, Nehemiah Whit4 was badly hurt--some of his teeth broken,
fractured skull, shoulder out of joint, wrist injured, etc.
