24 Jan Very heavy ox stolen from stable last night. About 12
of brethren went in pursuit. Tracked to West Troy, then
most returned. Company of riders in town had been noti-
fied and they continued their search. About 4 pm two
men came to CF Office and said the beast had been found
in East Troy. Stanton, Maynard and Josiah started out
but got only to Plank Rd, (Loudon Rd. ) where they met
Moses - a Believer, in Lansingburg - driving him home.
"The poor creature was so weary and tender footed, it
refused to be driven any further and laid down beside
road. When rested a little, they got h im into a yard
nearby for the night. The next morning Maynard and
Josiah brought him home."
2 Feb "A poor woman came here on foot through the snow to ob-
tain some medicine for her sick husband. On her arrival
she was cold, weary and both of her feet frozen. She
was kindly tr^eated by those in the Office and taken
home in a sleigh by Frederick and David, our physician.
4 Feb Three brethren went to court concerning the stolen ox.
A John Williams has been identified as one of thieves.
17 Feb John Williams sentenced to 3 yrs 5 mon. in jail.
18 Mar C. Copley brought 5 children from Albany - 4 girls and
1 boy. Father is Markwell, lately from England, lost
everything during the trip of 119 days.
10 Apr Their bill, to increase the net income of their pro-
perty from $5000 to $25,000, passed the Legislature.
48 members of Legislature attended their service and
had dinner after.
26 Apr "The farmers, some of the boys, and DAB set out some
3 acres of black locust of 1 year's growth in a NE di-
rection from our house."
16 May (Sun) Both orders of the Church met at the Meeting House
at the usual hour and Joseph Tillinghast was present
and gave the youth and children {all under 21 years of
age ) much good advice in a ayery simple and effective
manner . This man is a Believer but lives outside.
Hardly can a rich man enter in!"
Hosey Fuller (Lucy's father) came here from the SF a
few days ago. ,
31 May Jessev/Harwood, James'/Langridge , Azuba Train,
Thomas, Ruth" Green and Elizabeth Ingham went on a visit
to New Lebanon, Hancock & Tyringham.
4 July (Sun) One of the brethren counted 180 carriages by the
Meeting House today .
5 July Benjamin Markwell indentured his 5 children.
27 July "Wil^loughby/Green absents himself from the Society.
He has been disunited in spirit for more than a year;
and now he leaves bodily. Elizabeth Ingham follows in
the train and is carried to Schenectady . "
