25 Mar Lucy Pier^ce of SF died.
18 June C./Miller had his arm broken a little above the
wrist when his horse took freight and jumped sideways
on the way back from Albany, and Chauncey tried to get
out of the wagon and fell. A gentlemen brought him
home and Levi went back and got the colt and wagon.
13 July From newspapers, learn of draft riots in NYC & Troy.
18 July Have sold 53 1/4 bushels of Austin strawberries -
$172.85; have hermetically canned - $284.32 ^

7 Sept Sylvester^Prentiss and Daniel Sherman changed places,
Sylvester going into the Office, Daniel into family
deacon; Lydia^Annas left elders' order and went to
Office to be leading deaconess; Moriahl/Treadway left
Office and "takes particular charge of her sister,
Almira, who is somewhat weak-headed"; Catharine
Ferguson replaces her. Adelaidei/Ingham becomes a
family deaconess and Ellen Bussell will assist in
taking care of the little girls.
22 Sept Letter from Mt. Lebanon tells them that 18 of their bre-
thren had been notified to report for draft at Pough-
keepsie on Oct. 4 - 7 or 8 of them are aliens and
several are physically diswabled. Understand that the
marshall there says that if they make an affidavit as
conscientious objectors he intends to dress them up in
army uniforms, put a gun in their hands or tie it on
their backs and march them into camp. Elder Henry Blinn
and another at Canterbury have been examined and told
they are to serve; 8 or 9 at Enfield have been con-
scripted but not examined, and 4 at Shirley.

15 Dec George Price goes to NYC to order some India rubber
rollers for his newly invented pea shelling machine.
21 Dec Sylvester^prentiss went to Mt. Lebanon to see the
Ministry and get permission to sell the wood off the
"60 Acre Lot" at auction to increase the fund for buy-
ing coal for the family to burn.
