4 Jan Day set by President of U.S. for prayer & fasting to God to protect nation
from ruin.
27 Jan Eunice Johnson (quite aged) "had apoplectic fit last Friday and is very
helpless." Died Feb. 7. DAB says "This good aged sister suffered greatly
in her sickness but closed her last moments in quietness and without a groan.
She received no food or nourishment of importance for 14 days previous to

Jas. Malone and Catharine NcGoff ran off from 2d Family and got married.
24 Feb Lucy Fairchild and Lucy Prentiss move out of eldress office at 2d Order back
to ChF and Eliza Wells and Aurelia White take their places.
23 Apr "War between the northern and southern states has commenced."
7 May Elizabeth Ask died. "Her complaint was consumption in the bowels, by which
she has been failing for a long time past. She bore her sickness with great
patience and fortitude. For 19 orr20 days before her departure she partook
of no sustenance whatever, save a little pure water."
21 May DAB went to 2d Family to assist them about tailoring or cutting garments,
as they have no real tailor.
22 May DAB went again. Cut 10 pair pants, 6 vests, 3 open frocks.
6 Aug Ezekial Copley died at ,2d Order... .."His health.-has-.been poor and on the decline
many years. He was a worthy aged brother, somewhere near 8l%]years."

25 Aug. "Pleasant morning, yesterday's little showerlaid the dust. Had 1000 or more people of
the world attending the meeting. Hundreds could not get in and much confusion. Finally
those that had seats only used them as footstools tostand upon, each one eager to behold the
exercises of the Believers."

5 Sept Elder Joseph Pelham in accordance with a gift from the Ministry, concludes
"t6~*live here in our family""and not return to-Groveland with the rest of the
company."

27 Sept. Bad flood in Rochester area. Destroyed canal by Groveland for miles ($300,000 damage),
crops, etc. Groveland Shakers lost their mill dam and their flats are- covered with lumber
and rubbish.

2 October Post office name of New Lebanon changed to Mount Lebanon.

19 December Women and child, related to eleremiah Lowe at 2d Family, had been there several
