Everyone busy - digging potatoes, gathering herbs and seeds, gathering apples, painting,
making elder, canning sweet corn and tomatoes, boiling cider and making apple butter.

19 Nov Asa Seaton came to ChF from SF to live - in old n.w. meeting room. Will
work in garden. _

17 Jan Abr. Hendrickson confined to sick dept. with very bad carbuncle on back of
his neck "and his case is one of a dangerous character."

7 Feb "I watched with Bro. Abraham last night. He is a very distressed man. The
ant heap carbuncle... on the back of his neck is daily increasing;.;"

23 Feb Stephen Wells died.

29 Feb Freegift Wells "taken down very suddenly with the bilious colic."

6 Mar Jas, Watkins of 2d Family died. "Some 14 or 15 persons of the world, rela-
tives and old acquaintances" attended the funeral.
Two young men of Oneida Community or 'Perfectionists' came "to learn some-
thing of our manner of holding our real and personal estate in joint com-
munity etc."

9 Mar Abr. Hendrickson died. Had' carbuncle "bordering on a cancer" and salt
rheum throughout his whole system.
17 March "The order of youth girls is now broken up, some of them come into the house to live,
and some have gone to the order of small girls-at the Old Meeting House. The caretakers'
of the youth girls (Samantha and Ellin) are now to be in charge of the little girls and Sarah
Dean is released from the care of the latter."


19 March "Since James Gibson is gone, the men's tailoring has now fallen upon the sisters to do
| the sewing." ' {

25 Mar Geo. Price is getting papers prepared for patent on his pea-shelling machirie~

7 Apr DAB bought 5 hives of Italian bee^s from Mt. Lebanon for Elder Giles.

9 4pr DAB put in 140 grafts of pears, plums & apples in the small fruit tree
nursery.
17 May . DAB.is made elder; Chas. Brackett to live with him ("occupy the lot with him")

13 June Copt. Green came here for-jthe names of those brethren'between the ages of 20 and 45
liable to be drafted to military duty. . -

27 June Brethren wade in millpond and drive bullheads under the mill where they^atch them by
tubsfull.

17-20 July Temperature 100 in shade. Pine Bush on fire. .-
