6 Sept Thievery last night of clothes, towels, shirts, etc. Have been stealing at NF too last
night and night before. Took much more there.

9 Sept. Homer Strong robbed last night. The two robbers knocked him down, breaking his thigh/
went into house demanding from women the key to the money drawer. Not getting it/they
brought Homer into house and got $40 from him.

26 Oct. Galen Richmond of South Family robbed of his watch and $10, being attacked by two men
In thewoods beyond the 2d Family. One man grabbed the horse's head, while other jumped
into wagon.

28 Oct. 2d Family barns - grain & cow barn/ sheep barn, carriage house & shed - al I burned . Set
on fire in three places. Lost 4 wagons/ all their sleighs, thrashing mill /
all their grain and
oates, much of their hay. Only the ox barn saved.

5 Nov. Fire atSouth Family. Bells at different famil ies began their tol I and al I there were able
and could leave home/ did so. But all their barns were burned except office barn -hay/
grain/ straw and all .

9 Nov. Keep 3 or 4 people on watch each night to keep the Church Family buildings from being
set on fire. Elder Giles and 2 hired men last night. DAB and others tonight.

15 Nov. Meeting of families to dedide what can be done to protect their buildings.

29 Nov. Move a too! house behind barn on edge of orchard, put a stove inIt/ and prepare itfor
night watchers.

7 Dec. A hired man, Stephen Conway/ has agreed to watch at night and rest during day.

10 Dec C. Miller, Jesse Harwood, N. White, Stanton Buckingham and DAB went to Troy to
attend court about the "BristolCabbage Seed Case1 which opened.

13 Dec Concluded evidence, charged jury in case.

14 Dec Jury did not agree. Plaintiff8, defendent 4.



1 16 Dec. Elder Giles came from Mt. Lebanon to 2d Family about Alexander: Youngs "who is becoming
insane and not able to perform his duties as Trustee."

. 29 Dec. Alex Youngs died. "He lived an industrious and eventful life, doing much good as a
business man/ but in consequence of poor health of late/ great loss by fire and extraburdens,
itproved too much for his weak constitution and took him suddenly away. "

30 Dec. Stop night watch ings by brethren, just the hired man from 7 p.m . to" 5 a . m .
