4 (Sun) Tayburg to Rome - 11 mi les. Stanwix Ha I I .
5 Sle-igh arrives from home and send wagon back by railroad. Go to
Camden via Viena - 18 miles.

6 27 miles to Pulaski "and do OUT business on the way." "One continual
snowstorm."
7 Via Sandry Creek, Eisburg., Annsville and Bellville doing business all
the way to Adams in evening - 24 miles.

8 Finish business in Adams about noon and go 20 miles to Sacketts Harbor
via Henderson and Smithville. "Very cold and windy."

9 C. Copley traded horses and they went 18 miles thru Dresden and Broun-
ville to Limerick. "Very cold and I am sick with dysentery."

10 "Our new horse lame and I am quite unwell."
Go thru Chemony and Three Mile Bay 18 miles to Cape Vincent.

11 (Sun) Very cold. Doctor horse.
12 "I am very sick with "severe and continued pain." Have doctor.
Horse no better. C. Copley starts on but has to return because of
storm and snowdrifts.

13 C. Copley starts fof French Creek - drifts 11 feet. Have doctor again
in evening.

14 Only able to sit up a short while. "General appearance of myudisease
indicates an improvement; altho the golden wings of hope often rest on
the shoulders of disappointment."

15 Day of great pain and suffering for me. Someone comes from Watertown
and takes lame horse.

16 -24 for 3 days.

17 (Sat) Receive letter from C. Copley who is in Watertown and going to Ogdens-
burg. He wants me to meet him in Philadelphia next Wednesday.(20th)

19 ~30. Sti II sick.

20 Condition betters during day.

22 Improved and able to walk about.
23 Settle account at hotel and with doctor and go 25 miles to Waterfown.
24 Leave Watertown 7:30 and go 70 mi'I-es by stage to Rome, arrive 6 pm
very much exhausted. Stanwix Hall.
