Introduction--

With the a c c e l e r a t e d pace of
Shaker research during the last two decades,
it has become apparent that many vital, yet basic, resourse materials
ought to be made public. Perhaps one of the most needed of these tools
has been a complete list of all those who have served as r e l i g i o u s
leaders
from the time of Mother Ann to the present. Basically this covers three
broad categories: those who served until the formal gathering of New
Lebanon, those who served as members of the Ministry of New Lebanon,
and those who have served as leaders s i n c e the c l o s i n g of
Mount Lebanon.

Five years ago this compiler gathered notes taken from manuscripts into
a list which was sent to the Shakers at Sabbathday Lake fon their
inspection. At that time Sister R. Mildred Barker and Brother Arnold Hadd
looked at the work and gave their approval. Subsequently, information
from the library at Canterbury Shaker Village and other sources has been
used to supplement the original list. Of course, the compiler takes
responsibility for mistakes and w o u l dw e l c o m e any a d d i t i o n a l
information
as new resources for research are made a v a i l a b l e .

It is hoped that readers will find this list useful for the continued
advancement of Shaker studies.
