Part Three--The "Parent Ministry"
Anme R o s e t t a Stephens was the last New Lebanon Shaker to serve in the
Ministry. The other members lived at Hancock or Canterbury That next
year, 1947, Mount Lebanon was closed, and the last Mount Lebanon Shaker
died in 1951. Therefore it can be said that without New Lebanon as a
place where Shakers lived, and with no New Lebanon Shakers, the name
Ministry of New Lebanon was no longer appropriate. The term "Parent
Ministry" was used with some frequency since Canterbury had come to
dominate the Ministry towards the end of the second decade of the
century. By the 1940's ministerial appointment slips issued at Mount
Lebanon use the name "Parent Ministry."
