long Selone (sic) trumpets once an hour during the
night and no one was allowed to be out alonen during
the night. And they had reason (according to the in-
strument) to believe that "our enemies were near for
They heard them talking not too far distant but they
did no damage as we know of." Some time after midnight
having sounded our trumpets and sung a song of victory,
given on the occasion..., after which permission was
given for such as were not on watch to go to their
rest."
21 Feb "At supper table the 1st Order (CF) were called upon to
pray for the 2d Order (NF), who (the good Spirits said)
Were in great danager this night by the plotting of the
wicked. Two brethren went over to inform them after
supper, but they had been warned of their danger from
our kind guardian Spirits in the invisible world.
Hence a number of brethren watched, & tho they could
hear the wicked at a distance, they did no injury that
we know of. The 2d family were warned in like manner,
and 6 b rethren watched until they were told that dan-
ger was over. The 1st Order watched also, & I believe
they do every night."
25 Feb This evening about 8:30 " a company of worldlings (said
to be 25 in number) came by way of the NF & north of
The barns, crosed the bridge near the washhouse & took
the main path in front of our buildings, & when near
the Meeting House they beat on their drum & played on
some musical instrument. They went on past the office
When they got over the fence and went their way without
doing much mischief except breaking us of our rest and
frightening many of the sisters. The brethren pursued
them to the gate beyond the office, believing they in-
tended to steal the advertisement or destroy it. The
brethren and sisters assembled in the dooryard where
they shouted powerfully & also sung some... and they
shougted again at midnight."
28 Feb "The CF are, by divine authority, permitted to remove
the advertisement from the gate and place it in the
window at the head of meeting in the Meeting House
after the setting of the sun, where it was to hang till
Holy Mother Wisdom and Mother Ann's departure from this
earth."
