6 Feb Report by Eld Bro Giles about NYCity meeting. Fred.
Evans spoke about 2 hours. "There appears to be great
excitement in the city & much feeling to investigate
Shakers & find out what Shakers are & what principles
they hold to. A number have already come up to Lebanon
to join & more fixing to go."
9 Feb FSWicker, C. Copley & Channing Prentiss came back from
their seed route. Snow 5-6 ft. Deep in Black River
Country. They had to leave both teams & come home from
Utica by railroad.
18 Feb Freegift Wells, Betsy Harrison & ministry from SF and
WF making arrangements to go back up to James Watkins'
home area (Glenville) & have another meeting. "The
people in that quarter seem to have a favorable opinion
of the Shakers & have requested that some of us have a
meeting there."
21 Feb (NL) Frederick Evans back from NYC with a woman, 6
Girls & 2 boys.
13 Mar. Judith Rich died.
9 Apr FSWicker went to Canaan to help them in cutting &
Fitting clothes.
10 Apr Bad fire at Enfield NH destroyed 11 buildings, mainly
their machine shop & old office.
28 Apr Drawing timber to the island for a new barn.
