22 May KAbiah Crary moved from SF to NF.
10 July Reservoir for Shirley factory broke & swept away 7 dams
& did other damage, amounting to $10,000.

2 Aug Got 175 loads of hay from river farm.
10 Aug (Sun) Abial Hathaway addressed meeting. (He lives at "west
family of SF--about 6 miles.) Ministry visited there,
then went "to Isaac's farm, called the north farm,
rather a hard place. We think it is a pity they ever
bought it & should welcome they sell it if they could
get their money back & enough to pay them for their
expense they have been to."
11-21 Aug Illegible
22 Aug Returned to NL. In Greenbush at the "flats", water
covered the road from 12-20" for some 20 rods "but we
passed through safe, a fine chance to wash our wagon."
26 Aug Group from C^ went to visit at Lebanon--Stanton Buck-
ingham, Betsy Hawkins, Aurilla Whbite, Phebe Ann Smith,
Sarah Ann Wood & Catherine Ferguson. Then on to Han-
cock, Canaan, etc. Home on Sept. 6.
29 Sept DABuckingham went to Lebanon "on school matters."
1 Oct (NL) Ministry have letter from Canterbury Ministry
^fabout their trials & troubles with the people in Maine
& requesting advice or a visit. "The nature of things
were such that it was impossible to give satisfaction
by writing" so Elder Amos, Sister Betsy & another sis-
ter were to go the next day. Were gone 3 weeks.
3 Oct Abram Newman went from WV to see the Ministry at NL
"And if possible get their union & counsel in doing as
he pleased in regard to his wife & children. He stated
he had taken his oldest boy away from the Believers &
placed him with his relatives in the worldl, and that
he intended to take his other boy with him & go & live
with his wife & family until his children were old
Enough to take care of themselves, & when he had per-
formed that duty {as he explained it) he would want the
privilege of returning to Believers again & wished to
obtain our union & liberty in so doing. We endeavored
to show him that he was taking a dangerous step, and
One that we could not bless--that the gospel of Christ
required a sacrifice--a forsaking of natural ties--that
when he had provided a place for his children in the
world, he had performed a reasonable parental duty, and
