23 July Elder Amos & George Price put up a pole west of the
bridge & south of lane to barn, fastened to & sticking
up about 20 ft. Above a water poplar tree. On this
they put a vane to tell which way the wind was blow-
ing. It is 95 ft. From ground to pointer.
9 Aug (NL) "Liberty granted for false teeth to be intro-

16 Aug Ministry came to WF on journey to west. Stopped at
Groveland, No. Union in Cleveland. There they found
them "wading in deep tribulation" inasmuch as the
Elder had been gone 3-4 weeks & eldress about a week.
Ministry wired the ministry at Union Village who came
up on a night train. The Lebanon Ministry went on to
Cincinnati & White Water, then to Watervliet & Union Vil-
lage where they stayed 2 weeks. Started home on Sept.24,
stayed 2 days with Rappites in Pa., to WV on 29th.
29 Sept Brick walls of washhouse done & roof mostly covered.
4 Oct Ministry home to Lebanon. Had been gone 7 weeks & 1 day.
18 Oct (NL) Elder Amos goes to 2d Family to replace Eld Bro
Philemon & Richard Bushnell to come into Ministry.
23 Oct (NL)Hancock & other Lebanon families notified of pro-
posed change and, after first surprise, approved. They
now advise Philemon they would accept his resignation
which he had offered several times. "This took the
zealous brother somewhat by surprise...for a year or more
past Eld Bro Philemon has repeatedly urged the necessity
of making a change or removal of the female leaders in
the 2d Family, especially.the Elder Sister, & others
chosen to take the place that would better harmonize
with his peculiar views of ^progressive reforms' or
^Gospel increase' as he would term it. This the Minis-
try could not accede to, not finding a sufficient cause
