21 Aug The West Family has been canning corn and now much of it
is spoiling by fermentation.
20 Aug (Canaan) An aged woman named Betsy Scott, who appears to
have been insane, committed suicide by cutting her own
throat. She "has attempted to do this a number of times
before.
27 Aug Oscar Merchant found dead in bed, apparently of a fit.

1 Sept Chauncey Miller who /'has been afflicted with a broken arm
& Nervous Rheumatism", & who has asked to be relieved of
the Trustgeship, now has consented t/o continue to bear that
burden.
3 Sept Sylvester Prentiss is to be Asst. Trustee in place of Daniel
Sherman who will take Sylvester's place as family deacon.
DAB & 4 sisters go to Saratoga for a ride & releasement;
return the next day.
5 Sept Hear from Groveland t/hat Daniel Dryer, about 70 years old,
has left Believers & gone to his relations in Attica NY.
"For a time he appeared to be among the most faithful &
devots/ed. We think he must be some insane, time will prove. "
7 Sept The Ministry, by invitation, visited all the SF outfarms,
4 in all. Took dinner at Rotterdam where Galen Richmond is
harvesting about 70 acres of broom corn; their west farm
is now used as a milk farm & they have 20 cows there.
8 Sept Ministry give permission for a hired man to present ten
yoke of cattle at the state fair tomorrow. The object
is advertisement of the stock for the sale of calves, and
the satisfaction of town's people,"
9 Sept Ministry return to Lebanon. (Now illegible - ink faded.)
6 Nov Ministry come to WV. "A great amount of business going on
in the fruit line, canning tomatoes, apple butter, bottling
catsup etc."
8 (Sun) Meeting at home, public meeting closed last week. "Meeting
heavy & dull; a great, very great want of spiritual life in
this place."
9 Nov Elders from WF; "a time of distress, socially & spiritually
speaking. They are very, very much absorbed in temporal
things.\r
10 Nov Asa Seaton to move from SF to CF. "There has been consi-
derable scattering at the SF recently, but only of members
that never should have had a place there at all, and have
onlky been there on temporary probation."

11 Nov Meet with Brethren regarding reading material. To arrange
a regular subscription to a daily paper, "The Herald", and
two agricultural periodicals & the Scientific American. Also
