<b>21   Aug</b>     The   West   Family    has   been   canning     corn   and   now  much    of  it

                             is  spoiling     by   fermentation.

<b>20  Aug</b>      (Canaan)        An  aged   woman    named    Betsy   Scott,    who   appears     to

                             have   been   insane,     committed      suicide    by  cutting     her   own
<br>
                             throat.      She  "has attempted       to  do   this   a  number    of  times
<br>
                             before.

<b>27  Aug</b>      Oscar    Merchant     found   dead    in  bed,   apparently      of  a  fit.

<b>1  Sept</b>      Chauncey     Miller    who /'has    been   afflicted      with   a  broken    arm
<br>
                             &  Nervous     Rheumatism",       & who   has   asked    to  be  relieved     of
<br>
                             the   Trustgeship,      now   has   consented      t/o  continue     to   bear   that
<br>
                             burden.
<br>
<b>3  Sept</b>      Sylvester     Prentiss     is   to  be  Asst.    Trustee     in  place    of  Daniel
<br>
                             Sherman    who   will    take   Sylvester's      place    as  family     deacon.
<br>
                             DAB   &  4  sisters    go   to  Saratoga     for   a ride    &  releasement;
<br>
                             return    the   next   day.
<br>
<b>5  Sept</b>      Hear   from    Groveland     t/hat    Daniel    Dryer,    about    70  years    old,
<br>
                             has   left   Believers      & gone    to  his   relations     in  Attica     NY.
<br>
                             "For   a  time   he   appeared     to  be  among    the   most   faithful     &
<br>
                             devots/ed.      We  think    he  must    be  some   insane,     time   will   prove. "

<b>7  Sept</b>      The   Ministry,     by   invitation,      visited     all  the   SF  outfarms,
<br>
                             4  in   all.    Took   dinner     at  Rotterdam     where    Galen    Richmond     is
<br>
                             harvesting      about    70  acres    of  broom    corn;     their   west    farm
<br>
                             is  now   used   as   a milk    farm   &  they   have    20  cows   there.
<br>
<b>8  Sept</b>      Ministry     give   permission      for   a  hired   man   to   present    ten
<br>
                             yoke   of   cattle    at  the   state    fair   tomorrow.       The  object
<br>
                             is  advertisement        of  the   stock   for   the   sale   of   calves,    and
<br>
                             the   satisfaction       of  town's    people,"

<b>9  Sept</b>      Ministry     return    to  Lebanon.       (Now   illegible     -  ink   faded.)

<b>6  Nov</b>       Ministry     come   to  WV.     "A  great    amount    of  business     going    on
<br>
                             in   the  fruit    line,    canning    tomatoes,      apple   butter,     bottling
<br>
                             catsup    etc."

                8   (Sun)    Meeting    at   home,   public    meeting     closed    last   week.    "Meeting
<br>
                             heavy   &  dull;    a  great,    very   great    want   of   spiritual     life   in
<br>
                             this   place."

<b>9  Nov</b>       Elders    from   WF;   "a   time   of  distress,      socially     &  spiritually
<br>
                             speaking.       They   are   very,    very   much   absorbed     in   temporal
<br>
                             things.\r

<b>10  Nov</b>      Asa   Seaton    to  move    from   SF  to   CF.    "There    has   been   consi-

                             derable     scattering      at  the   SF  recently,      but   only   of  members
<br>
                             that   never    should    have   had   a  place    there    at  all,   and   have
<br>
                             onlky    been   there    on  temporary      probation."

                             a  regular     subscription       to  a  daily   paper,     "The   Herald",     and
<br>
                             two   agricultural       periodicals      &  the   Scientific      American.       Also
