Groveland on Dec. 28th asking him to meet in Rochester.
Elder Daniel left on the 29th, and today Giles receives a
letter from Eldress Lydia Dole that Lucius Southwick had
left. He had been the leading Trustee at Groveland for many
years & carried on a large business in lumber. "He claims
$5000 from the Society, saying that his father brought into
the Society over $4000. But to this property there were
several heirs, and some of them were sick & a bill of expense
for years; Lucius' portion of his father's estate was $800
which he duly consecrated. Such is the pertinacity and
selfishness of human nature."
3 Jan NL Elder Daniel returned to NL & said that Luaius refuses to
settle for less than $5000. Groveland have hired a lawyer
Wiesner of Mt. Morris) to offer Lucius $2000 "or to use a
portion of the same :to do the legal business in disproving
his claims to anything."

an efficient and reliable Trustee in the two societies in
Maine; and only two that may be considered honest." Isiah
