26 Mar (NL) "A young man by name of Josephus Dingman who has been
among Believers at New Lebanon, Watervliet,aUnion Village
etc. calls at the office to see the Ministry. We suffer
him to go to Watervliet."
26 Apr Ministry come to WV.
28 Apr Elders from WF and SF visit and we find "the candidates who
came in last fall, came to be wintered merely."
30 Apr Spend considerable time with Elder Chauncey Copley regarding
"troubles at NF."
2 May Spend all day at NF. "having arranged for Elder Chauncey to
see to the Island and New farms, and Albert to sell some
brooms etc. as the family has about 500 doZen on hand unsold.'
3 May Giles spends day at WF '"'concerning some runaway youth and
Josephus Dingman, who is very troublesome indeed."
8 May Giles & Nehemiah overhaul all the bees. Lost about half of
hives during the winter and most of those alive are in a
sad condition.
10 May "An aged man, by name $of Hosea Fuller, here for some
10-12 years or more, died today. He is 90."
11 May Ministry speak to Sylvester Prentiss about taking the Elder-
ship at NF, releasing Chauncey Copley who would take Syl-
vester's place as deacon there. Sylvester "consents to
try it for one year."
12 May Receive letter from Elder William Reynolds concerning
Josephus Dingman, "showing him to have lied and deceived."
14 May Giles spends afternoon at WF concerning Josephus.
28 May Giles goes to WF and "labors with Jos^ephus."
1 June Ministry return to Lebanon.
2 June (NL) Ministry hear from New Gloucester that Charles Vining
who was Trustee of CF for many years, has left,'having run
up a debt of about $9000 for the Shakers. Jailed in Port-
land on 9th. On 14th, Otis SAwyer wires Ministry to come.
Ministry went, came back via Harvard, home on 25th.
12 July Elder Peter Long of Groveland comes to Lebanon to borrow
money to buy about 50 acres of land on Genesee Flats close
by Mt. Morris Village for $150/acre. Given permission.
19 July Ministry come to WV.
22 July Public meeting. Joseph Pelham addresses the world, "he is
very feeble, but his spirit is very bright."
At WF, Paulina Bates now Elder Sister due to death of Rebecca
Carter.
