11 Jan (NL) Frederick Evans writing two articles for "Atlantic
Monthly" mostly setting forth Shaker principles etc.
18 Feb Ministry, except Eldress Betsy who is sick, come to WV.
2 Mar Chauncey Sears comes from Groveland to see Ministry & con-
fer "about condition of Society, also concerning the pur-
chase of a fine farm in Mt . Morris."
3 Mar C. Miller goes with Eld Sears to Albany "to see if they can
arrange to raise some money to help our Groveland friends
to buy the new farm."
Eldress Betsy died suddenly & unexpectedly at Lebanon and
Elder Daniel Grossman comes to WV to notify them and they
return to Lebanon.
5 Mar Elder Sister Ann Taylor becomes Eldress, and Polly Reed,
Eldress of Leb CF, to be Elder Sister. Have to go around to
all the NL families and tell them, then write to all the
other communities to tell them.
10 Mar Giles returns to WV (also Eld Daniel). Sisters will fol-
low when they finish moving. Come on the 20th.
12 Mar Letter from Groveland that they have purchased the Oliphant
farm at Mt . Morris.
5 Apr Stanton Buckingham resigns as manager of farm, succeeded
by Daniel Sherman.
8 Apr Ministry return to NL.

15 May Giles comes to WV with group of singers from Canterbury
who have been at NL teaching them.
16 (Sun) Have society singing meeting at 9:30 am at CF . "The
terbury singers give us a good drill. All seem pleased."
17 May Society singing meeting in the evening. at CF.
18 May Canterbury singers go to NF today. Society singing meeting
in evening.
19 Canterbury singers go to WF today. Society drill again
this evening, as usual.
