9 Sept Visit West Family, 7 men, 20 women. No Elder here.

11 Sept Visit North Family. 20 men, 12 women, "a lovely
& efficient lot of elders; family appears quite prosperous.
12 Sept Visit West Lot, the Swede family, 7 men, 12 sis-
ters. A large share of those who came over from Sweden
went back again; some moved to other fqamilies and are
doing well.
15 Sept Ministry spent all day with Kentucky Ministry &
Wm. Pennybaker, trials & grievances on all sides, closed
by advising William to move as requested.
Family engaged in broom corn harvest "with hired darkies
entirely."
16 Sept Spend day at West Family , laboring with Pennybakers.
"A hard feeling of prejudice strongly prevails herjfe."

When recover, spend time laboring with individuals.
2 Oct Finally able to visit families.
3 Oct"; East Family "in a low & broken condition for want of
a more efficient leadership; little enterprise, little thrift,
little spiritual gift, and, of course, little protection."
4 Oct Visit North or Gathering Family, 12 males, 20 females.
Appears in tolerably good condition, is well disciplined.
5 Oct Visit little West Fami^ly, One young man, named John
Crack & 5 sisters are located here," just to keep out the
Negroes. They are not at present trying to build up this
place."
12 Oct Want to start home but sisters too ill, so Elder
Daniel & Giles go alone to Union Village .where they plan to
wait for them. Sisters come on 16th. Leave on 20th and
go to Economy, Pa. Visit village here & Father George Rapp's
house. Left on 23d, went to Pittsburgh, to Philadelphia
where they visited "the colored sisters' home" Found visi-
tors from Hancock; visited around city; group arrived from
Canterbury so on 29th, Sunday, meeting had 23 Shakers present.
30 Oct Leave for NYC, next day take boat for Albany.

1 Nov Back at Wvlt. Elder Nathaniel's report of NF conditions is
very distressing; there is much want of harmony & protection.

3 Nov Meet with CF elders & arrange to send off two very bad boys.
Conditions of society in CF is distressing.
4 Nov Elder Daniel & Giles spend day at NF in labors with indi-
viduals ; constant trouble financially.
CF & W;F making cider & boiling for sauce; SF clearing new
land of stumps.

6 Nov A 1'ong talk with C. Copley; he wants to resign. Then Elder

DAB wants to oppose a proposition we had made to move Josiah
Barker from NF. Giles goes to SF to see Elder Galen & Bro
Chauncey about Josiah moving there.
