(NL) Washington DC about the decline of Shakers.
I May Ministry go to Groveland. Meet at West Family relative
to continuing a family there.
13 May Ministry return to Wvlt.by way of Middleville to visit
Eldress Polly's relatives & get her share of her father's
estate. Get back to Wvlt on 15th.
20 May Giles begins work on large boiling tubs for CF washhouse.
Finishes on 30th.
9 June Ministry return to Lebanon, Giles by rail, rest by carriage.
30 July Marcia Hillsgrove finally returns to Canterbury, after
having conducted singing & music lessons at Wvlt & Lebanon
6 Aug Ministry come to Wvlt. Are putting in a new floor in the
washhouse and getting a new mill from Canterbury.
II Aug Elder Daniel works basket stuff; Giles fixing clocks, &
writing.
14 Aug Ministry attend "a Pickwick" at WF locust grove, west of
NF.
31 Aug (Sun) "Vast crowd at public meeting, multitudes could not get
in. Giles had to address the assembly & at short notice."
Canning tomatoes, harvesting & selling sweet corn, etc.

13 ^S Henry George has put a new roof on old barn, of best sawn
pine shingles.
15 /&?g Run out of cans & can makers on strike, so many tomatoes

17 S&g Ministry return to Lebanon.
21 &&g Elder Frederic Evans has gone to a liberal meeting at
Chautauqua Lake, suggesting governmental reforms for the
country.

29 Sept "Giles writes to the President relative to the operation
of the law authorizing present form of censorship of the
mails."

12 Nov Ministry come to Wvlt.
17 Nov Philip Smith returns from Chicago; Albert Lomas has gone
to South Union. Arrange for Wm. Johnson to move to CP.
20 Nov In evening talk with Philip Smith about "what property to
leave in Chauncey Miller's hands to settle law suits & pay
up debts to hired men."
