27 Aug Elder Daniel makes baskets for Henry George; Giles makes
sale boxes for Office Sisters.
29 Aug Two brethren come from Lebanon Centre Family & Giles &
Stanton take them to Elm Tree Farm (Witbecks) where they
buy "some thousands" of plants to take home.
30 Aug Can 170 doz. tomatoes; emply 3 hired women.
31 Aug Can 110 doz. tomatoes.
Sept Canning tomatoes furiously, also cutting sweet corn and
entertaining Ohio Ministry.
15 Sept Ohio Ministry leave for Eastern So.ci.**-Aties;Lebanon Ministry
go home.
23 Sept Giles telegraphs Wvlt to observe President Garfield's
funeral on 26th.
I Oct Elder Daniel sent a telegram to come to Wvlt. Goes on 2d,
returns on 4th; Giles goes to Maine. Gets home on 12th.
29 Oct Eldress Polly Reed released from Ministry.
Elder Daniel "pounding out basket stuff;" "too heavy a job
for a man almost 80 years of age."
9 Nov Ministry, except Eldress Polly, come to Wvlt.
10 Nov "A sorry state of the NF. A lack of gospel union &
Christian principle."
II Nov Only 9 males now at WF. Five men recently came into SF
"pretending to unite."
13 Nov Go to SF & talk with them about taking Eldress Harriet
Bullard for Central Ministry.
17 Nov Elder Daniel & Giles go to SF to see Elder Galen about "the
arrangement of their washhouse, to induce him to arrange the
machinery so as best to sronvene.
Letter from Canterbury invites Giles to come to arrange with !
Canterbury Friends about accepting doing the MANIFESTO for ;
a time. Giles leaves on 18th. Starts home on 23d, via
HarvaRD, ARRIVES Wvlt on 24th.
25 Nov Eldress Polly Reed died at Lebanon.
27 Nov (Sun) Elder Daniel & Giles spend most of the day "in labours '
at NF, relative to both temporal & spiritual conditions. j
Arrange for family to have oatmeal, rice etc., also 30 Ibs. j
of sugar per individual per year; arrange for G.A. Lomas to '
furnish the shortening for the family's use, all of it." ;
