30 Mar 9NL) Groveland brethren have sold Mt. Morris farm for
$30,000 to Lucius Bingham.
3 Apr Elder Daniel & Giles go to Groveland. Talk to Elder Peter
about "paying the Watervliet debt; he is set strongly
against it."
Giles looks up accounts of Mt. Morris farm with Paul
Kingston, who managed it some years. On 13th, meet with
elders a bout the claim of Watervliet loan of $6000. "It
was left for El^der James Goodwin to pay if he kept the
tract of land last apportioned to WF."
Ministry return to Lebanon on 14th.
18 May Ministry come to Wvlt.
21 May Giles goes to NF to see Albert Lomas "about 200 copies of
his "Plain Talks" ordered by Harvard.
29 May Finish setting out tomatoes--9300 plants (5 acres).
30 May Giles works at SF wainscoting stairways in Sisters' Shop.
5 June Giles fits in some windows at Office for Samantha Bowie;
Elder Daniel mends baskets.
7 June Giles fitting new windows into Deaconesses shop, "a bad
job, everything old, awkward, & out of rig about frames."
8 June Giles goes to printer, Weeds & Parsons in Albany, to print
2000 copies of "Sketches of Shakers & Shakerism" for $1.60
per page.
11 June Giles goes to SF to get information about their water
works; "they are much troubled about water."
12 June Giles makes a fixture for SF spring so as to catch more
water; fix a cask ready to sink also. Turns out to be a
hard job, caves in, gets 3 to help him.
25 June Goes to NF to see Albert;, picks 3 pecks of cherries.
27 June Ministry return to Lebanon.
25 July (NL) Telephone line set up in Brick Office, on 26th to
Stone Mill. T.
