badly injures 'tomatoes, squash & cucumbers. Rain 1% in.
23-27 Giles mending windows at SF, Eld Daniel making ladders.
29 Aug Have a closing school exhibition at SF, large attendance
of spectators. "The scholars sung & spoke most excellently."
2 Sept Giles writes an article for the ALBANY SUNDAY EXPRESS,
answering "a very unwise article from the Editor, pub-
lishing some very unwise talk of a professed Shaker."
3 Sept Ministry return to Lebanon.
4 Sept (NL) Giles having 'recurrence of malarial fever. In
infirmary until 13th.
18 Oct (NL) Benj. Gates returns from Aalbany, has been to see a
lawyer & brethren from Wvlt about an attempt by a Troy
lawyer to get a claim on some of the NF land at Wvlt.
29 Oct Ministry come to Wvlt.
2 Nov (Sun) OF meeting in a.m. "Much testimony against worldly
follies, bric-a-brac, theatre going, military parades,
sightseeing, etc."

6 Nov Giles cuts down 3 bedsteads for sisters.
9 Nov (Sun) Ministry all spend day at NF. "Speak much to family
about the impropriety of Believers, attending theat^res,
menageries, military displays, etc; also about the impro-
priety of bricabrac--statuettes of plaster, marble, soap,
sugar, etc., foolish pictures."

10 Nov Elder Daniel works at basket stuff; Giles goes to NF to
show hired men how to put up cabbage for winter.
12 Nov Giles works at SF, w ainscoting a room for a bathroom.
Does so all week.
30 Nov (Sun) Spend most of day at SF. Have evening meeting at CF
"about the provisions for the family, particularly about
meat, sugar, oatmel, cream, wheat grits, rice, etc. Some
unpleasant."
3 Dec Ministry return to Lebanon.
9 Dec | (NL) "A woman by the name of Rebecca Delia Wade comes t
SF who is a peculiar healing medium for the insane. She
has operated on the crazy women there very favorably."
23 Dec (NL) Last people move from South Canaan Family. Looking
into a deal for swapping that property for some in NYC.
