where credit is probably not due. The Shakers were however
pioneers in the cut-nail industry, as their early account books show.)

15. Improved WASHING MACHINE. Patented in 1858 by David Parker of
Canterbury, but had been in use by them for many years before
being patented.
16. Improved WINDMILL. Invented at Canterbury.
17. Summer Covering for a Flat-iron Stove. Invented by George W.
Wickersham.
18. STOVE-COVER LIFTER Invented by Sewell G. Thayer of North
Union, Ohio

20. Machinery for twisting the handles of TTsopus whips". Invented at
Watervliet.

24. "Self-acting" CHEESE PRESS. Invented at New Lebanon.
