This a Journal kept at the North Family at Mt. Lebanon by
someone or several brethren who were "gardeners," that is,
grew vegetables as opposed to the "farmers" who grew the field
crops of rye, wheat and oats. Itis difficultto be sure, but it
would seem that most ofthe vegetables they grew were primarily
for seed purposes. There is little mention of harvesting them for
the Family table.
Main brethren mentioned as participating in this work are Levi
Shaw, John Robe, Edward Liddle, Henry Everts, Andrew Firkey
Henry Cantrell and Clausen Middleton, the latter two being the
main salesmen who went on their "routes."
This is a verbatim transcriptionof the Journal.
