llth Drew 37 loads sheep manure & fixed some stakes in the hawthorn hedge to
keep sheep out.
12th Sab. Public meeting A.M. Canaan singers up PM.
13th Raking in the North Garden for lettuce, 10 rows Cabbage Hd,, west side,
next to the Blood Beet. Manured, ploughed & raked the old Asparagus bed,
on which continued out 8 rows Sage (planted in hills 2 ft,
apart) East side;
next 2 rows parsley, and (blank) rows Vegetable Oyster.. (I planted some
okras in the Horseradish bed.)
El. Richard, R. White, A. Crossman & Anna White start for N.Y.
14th Raking east side of North Garden, very wet, had to leave a piece on the
south side on that account. Planted potatoes in the N. Garden; fixed the
walk; sowed 2 rows Mangel Wurzel & 16 do Frankfort Lettuce. Wed out the
strawberry patches.
15th Fixing walks in the 1st Garden; cultivating onions & parsnips, picking up
stones. Very rainy: farmers on the mountains sowing oats. PM printing
& picking over peas.
16th Rainy; worked indoors - peas, printing &etc.
17th Rainy with thunder. Drawing manure from the oxyard to the compost heap.

18th Some of the Gardeners went to a raising at the 2nd Orde.r (A.M.) Some
seeds put up for Moss of N, York and for Honesdale. Very cold, tee tious
day. L.S. to Canaan for El. Rd.
19th Considerable frost last night; ground rather stiff.Public meeting AM;
reading at home PM SABBATH.
20th Very rainy; the farmers return home down wet. Brethren work indoors; in the
afternoon, the North & South mountains were covered with snow.
21st AM, still cloudy, gardeners work in the shop; farmers chore; PM, we hoed
the borders in the 1st Garden; and harrowed the cucumber patch, north.
Levi starts for NYork with a load of brooms & brushes. R. White & 2 "sisters
return from NYork.
22nd The 3rd lot north of North Garden (west part near wall) was dragged and, as
the ground was considered to be too soddy for furrowing, we dug holes and
filled them with manure; some planting was done, but we did not get through.
The seed is EarlyCluster Cucumber. There has been some sunshine today,
interspersed with clouds & appearances of rain, but nothing positive was done
in that line.
23rd Exchanged with East Family 1 peck Royal Whites for 1 do Early China Beans.
