4th (cont.) Farmers planting corn. The aseason last month has been entirely unprecedented,
cold & rainy.

5th 3rd lot north of the North Garden, next to the cucumbers was dragged, and part
sowed with Washington Peas. Staking & tying up Cabbages. In the hog lot
east of the Drumhead, planted 10 rows Flat Dutch Cabbage, then raked over a
small strip east and sowed 2 drills Green Savoy and 2 drills Early (large) York.
On the wes end of the old asparagus bed, raked for and sowed 4 rows Pepper-
grass. Farmers finished planting corn and pumpkins. Ploughed behind the
woodshed for carrots; drawing manure at the Price for sweet corn lot. Hottest
day yet. Horses begin to be turned out to pasture.

6th Staking and tying up cabbages; shuffling small plants; weeding & thinning
lettuce. In the NO rth Garden west side set out 3 rows of tomatoes averaging
80 plants to a row. Thermometer 90 in the shade.

7th Cultivated in the 1stgarden, onions, beets, parsnips, parsley, hoed onions;
shuffling small plants & weeding & thinning../ In the North Garden, shuffled
the small radishes.

8th Hoeing in the 1stGarden south side; weeding and thinning radishes. In the
North Garden, began to make preparation for setting out peppers, but were
disturbed by the rain. Sharp thunder & lightning & very heavy rain.

9th SABBATH DAY. Meeting at Meeting house and home. Fine day.
Drizzled in the evening.

10th (N.B. Saturday the 8th, 82 rows of carrots were sowed south of the Brick Shop.)
Today, setting out peppers; west of the walk Bell, and ontfie east part ofthe
garden, Squash. Very rainy, worked in the shop.

11th Rainy: planted in the South Garden, north of the onions, 2 rows Windsor beans;
south of the onions, 2 rows sugar peas in drills; staked & tied up cabbages.

12th Cultivating & hoeing turnips & beets, 1st Garden; weeded & hoed vegetable oyster
parsley & young sage; fixing peddling wagon.

13th Hoed the carrots (North Garden) & planted Royal White beans among them; hoed
& wed the radishes (Scarlet Turnip), do, do. the cabbage head lettuce: fine day.

14th Hoed & thinned & wedded all the small plants in the North Garden: planted Early
White beans among the beets west of the walk: hoeing potatoes & cabbages
east side: planted China beans among the rutabagas, ease zide.

15th Finished planting beans among the beets. 3 gardeners help Samuel at the
Perry place to hoe corn.

16th SABBATH DAY. The Society on the Holy Mount: beautiful day.

17th Hoed & wed the little onions & other etc.
