January
18th The principal occurrences from last date are: Sr. Amy Bennett went to live
atthe EastFamily the 28th Dec,; the East family lost a horse the31st ult; a
brother drove the team with a load of broom corn from the river & came as far
as the North House, when one of the horses felldown, was taken to the stable,
allefforts were unavailing, he died; the 30th L.S. & H.E. started on the
Western route; the 5th through some misunderstanding of signals, the North &
East families alone attend meeting at the M. House; the 30th the 5 brethren &
2 hired men went over to Washington & staid until Saturday noon; the 26th the
Elders started on a visit to Watervliet; several very warm days lately, rained
considerably; Wednesday & Thursday (15th & 16th) the thermometer stood at +50 ;
16th Deacon Stephen (of the Church) died; 18th Levi & Henry arrive,

19th The families attend public meeting.

20th Brethren mostly engaged at broom making.

21st The Elders return home from Watervliet.

22nd B rought home the old seeds from Syracuse which had been sent to Canaan Depot
Carried 10,000 seed bags to Canaan for them to paste.

24th Henry Everts in corrfany withH. Cantrell & A. Firkey went after logs to Wash-
ington. Levi cutting seed bags

26th Public meeting at the Meeting House.

27th Cutting seed bags. The Brethren are getting ice to fill.theice house, George
went to Pittsfield to get some patterns for printing press.

28th Cold & stormy. Cutting seed bags.

29th Clawson & John Shaw returned home from the Northern Seed Route. The
brethren filled the Ice house with ice.



Edward Liddle & Wm. Offord came to work in the seed shop.

6th The Brethren are engaged drawing lumber from Washington. Sent 15000 seed
bags to Canaan to be pasted.

7th Brethren making seed bags. E. & Wm. Levi cutting bags. Stilldrawing
timber from Washington, going very good.
Br. Samuel Sweat who has been sick forseverel years with consumption &
dispepsia died rather unexpectedly at about ten today. A very easy death,
quite a restless night last was to him. Br. Daniel Frazer was with him.

8th At half past two according to previous arrangement the funeral commenced.
Canaan Br, & Sist. were here. The grave was dug by Avery & Burns, Very cold.
