14 Oct HaRRIET Jones of CF comes to get Eldress Annie to make her a black silk
(cont.) dress for her to wear on her trip south this winter.
19 Oct 60 Ib. bucket of compound AG uses for making pies lasted from August 6
until today.
21 Oct Nina Elliot f s mother and her intended husband and 3 other women besides a
chauffeur came to take Nina away. Nina did not want to go and cried.
"Her mother is no good and the man that came with her is a large coarse-
looking fellow and had been drinking. Her mother has no settled home and
works in a hotel."
24 Oct Mr. and Mrs. Cantine took Eldress Annie and AG on an auto trip to Mt. Leba-
Sun. non. Left Albany about 9 a.m. Went to North Family for dinner, then to
CF for visit and to buy things in their store, then to Hancock for a visit.
Started home 4 p.m., "stopped at a road house, the St. Elmo, and Mr. Cantine
got us all a ginger highball to warm us up. Oh! How the wind cut into
our faces, but we enjoyed it. It blew fierce, didn't know but I would
chew all the hair out of my head for the wind blew it right across my mouth."
Arrived home 7:30, chilled to the marrow,11 had hot tea and I went to bed
to get warm.
26 Oct Potato digger borrowed from CF broke so have had to dig by hand and the
rows are nearly a mile long. So far at WF have dug 80 bbls. and 50 bbls
of small and 40 bbls large potatoes from their own fields.
28 Oct AG's birthday. Her favorite present was a hunk of limburger cheese which
she keeps out of doors because of its smell and goes to the woodhouse to
eat.
v^9 Oct Her room is finished. Came out of bake room after 17 weeks.
2 Nov Washed and ironed. Large washing - 22 sheets, 3 large spreads, 20 collars
and a mighty stack of dresses and aprons. Done by 10 a.m.
3 Nov Elder Josiah is having a house moved from the NF to the CF across the road from the new
barn for Fred Willey to live in this winter so he can watch the barn and make sure it is
not set on fire again.
Eldress Annie and Maggie bought two Perfection Oil Stoves for $10, one to heat the men's
bathroom, the other for Maggie's fruit cellar to keep the canned fruit from freezing.
Maggie also bought towel racks, night lamp, soap dish, drinking cup and all are nickel
bathroom fixtures for both bathrooms.
4 Nov Grace very busb, weaving rugs for Christmas sale.
5 Nov Ella Winship had to go to dentist and have 8 lower teeth extracted, wanted someone to
go with her and asked Eldress Anna.
7 Nov Hired man, Antoine Getz, leaves today to go to NYC for the winter. He does not like
to stay in the country during the winter. Says he will be back in the spring.
Elder Josiah from CF and Hamilton DeGraw of NF usually spend Sunday afternoon at SF
and take supper.
9 Nov Deborah (Knight) has gone to New Lebanon for a visit so Grace and Viola are doing her
work of taking care of the hired men - making their beds, cleaning the rooms, washing
dishes and waiting on table in their dining room.
13 Nov Eldress Annie got 20 tons of coal at $6/ton to carry SF through the winter.
Yesterday Harriet Jones and May Winegarden Miller came to see Eldress Annie. Seems
there will be no law suit, that May wants no trouble but blames her husband and "old
Schriver, Rachel McDonald's secretaryHasfiey called him. Eldress Anna said she was
willing to give her what was right but not the exorbitant sum they demanded. "So they
parted friends,..."
14 Nov ND meeting. Ella Winship suffering from her teeth extraction, Ozias not feeling well,
Mary taking care of Marie, Frieda's dinner day, Florence wouldn't go--so concluded
not to have meeting.
James Browne 11 is now theSF herdsman.
