17 Nov Mr. Goodfellow came after supper to see Eldress Annie about making some postcards.
18 Nov Eldress Anna and Anna Goepper went to Schenectady to see Lawyer Van Voast. May
Winegarden "pretended tp be very nice to Eldress Anna, wanting no trouble, but itseems
her husband is determined to make troub le from letters Van Voasf read us, and when she
got home there was a letter for Eldress Anna saying they expted to go on with the suit."
19 Nov George Warner brought 10 bbls. of flour.
Sisters very busy at shop sewing fancy work for Christmas.
20 Nov Dr. Hacker came to see Marie who is still flat on her back. Also had him look at little
Lillian Cross who has bad spells. Dr. says they are caused by a weak heart and poror
blood, but as for me, I maintain she is an epileptic and I do not care what the doctor says.
21 Nov Two men in an auto from Watervliet want to have Eldress Anna take a small girl but she
advised them to go to the NF as she did not care for any more at present.
22 Nov SF putting up new wire fence around the cemetery.
Masons fearing out two large arch kettles in laundry, and making a cement floor for a new
gas engine to use this winter for drying clothes. The brick they tore out was used to
fill in a low place near the dairy,
23 Nov Hugo bought 3 turkeys in Albany and Freida dressed 9 chickens.
24 Nov Maggie roasted the turkeys and cooked the chickens.
25 Nov Thanksgiving. Meeting. A. Goepper read the poems "He cannot read his tombstone
when he's dead" and "Thanksgiving."
Had turkey, dressing, gravy, celery, cranberries, turnips, cold slaw, mashed potatoes,
pickles, dates and grapes. Geo. Warner gave us a present of a mea! ofoysters.
27 Nov We hear by phone that Polly Lee at NF fell and broke her thigh. Albert took Eldress
Anna and Maggie to the NF right away, Maggie stayed all night.
28 Nov Hugo went to Albany to get a rubber bedsheet for NF and took Eldress Anna, with sheet
Sun. and bedpan to NF. Ozias feeling quite miserable these days.
29 Nov We have 'been very bad off for butter forseveral weeks. There has never been so little
since I have been here. It seems the cows have not been managed right, and the bull is
no account.
Ella Benedict of CF, Eldress Anna, Maggie and Grace of SF are taking turns going to NF
to stay at night with Polly.
The new girl at the NF started school today - her name is Frances Scott.
5 Dec A.Goepper goes back into the bakeroom.
Florence has addressed cards to Shaker customers telling them of their Christmas store
which wilI A m Huested's Drug Store.
9 Dec "Eldress Anna and Florence spent a very |jad night with Eldress Polly. She seems to suffer
a great deal and kept calling aloud so they had little or no rest,"
12 Dec h^F has at last hired a RN from Albany to take care of Eldress Polly. Sister Ella Winship
now down with lumbago in her back, not able to stand it anylonger. Eldress Polly is a
great care, not still a minute,
13 Dec Maggie and Mary go to Albany to run their Shaker Christmas store. Will room in Albany.
14 Dec Snowbound. 3 1/2 feet on level of snow, with wind drifting it badly. Men having hard
time trying to get paths shoveled. Windows entirely covered upstairs and down.
Sold old bus$ for $55, Elder Josiah got new one for $85. No school, no mail, no visitors.
15 Dec Continues to snow and blow. No mail, no one on road.
16 Dec School again, Hugo into Albany, but no mail.
17 Dec Began to rain about 10 a.m- and continued all day, freezing info glare of ice.
20 Dec Jennie Wells phoned from NF to say Eldress Polly gradually failing.
Eldress Anna got oranges, bananas and candy for school entertainment*
