15 March Eld. Anna had letter from War Dept. asking use of West farm buildings "for sick and
dying soldiers, a hospital by rights." They offer good pay.
Mattie phoned at 4:30 that she would be at power house at 5:00 and wanted Hugo to
meet her. Two ladies came to ask Eld. Anna to take a brother and sister but she felt
she couldn't take the boy and ladies didn't want the children separated, so Eld Anna
advised her to take them to Fairview Home.

16 March "Mattiie cleaned the hall, talks to no one, but after supper lastnight was in Eld. Anna's
room quite a while. No one knows what the outcome of her talk was and I don't know
as we care justso she gets away from here. "
18 March Eld. Anna making me two winter dresses, one for meeting, one everyday, and 3 waits.

19 March "Mattie stillhangs on here."
21 March "Mattie complains of her strength being gone and her nerves being In a collapse. No
wonder. "
23 March Ministry from Mt. Lebanon comes to visit. "We now find out where Mattie went about
a week ago when she stayed overnight in Albany, as we thought. She went to Mt.
Lebanon to see the ministry but they did not think any more of her for that. This after-
noon, the Ministry, Eld. Anna and Mattie held a meeting in the Eldress's room for over
an hour. Just what transpired and the outcome remains to be seen. Suffice it to say,
Mottle's head Is considerably lowered. "
24 March George Dahm fixes lock on Mattie's trunk this p.m.
25 March "Mattie taking bath and washing her hair. Poor Eld. Anna looks like she was thoroughly
tired out and disgusted with her and would be glad when it is over with, and I know all
of the sisters including myself w i l l
shed no tears when she is gone. "
"The egg bursted this afternoon. Mattie took her departure, bag and baggage. Hugo
took her to the power house, then come back and took her 2 large trunks by truck to
the station in Albany. She has gone to Dayton, Ohio, we suppose to a cousin of hers.
The ministry never thought for a moment to taking her to Mt. Lebanon. So we all feel
greatly at rest and thisis the end of it, thank the Lord."

25 April Eld. Anna takes Gladys and Beatrice Kllburn to Troy and puts on train, in care of con-
ductor, to go to their mother in So. Londonderry, Vt. Mother "keeps meddling about
the girls and interfering, besides the girls are physicallyunfit to keep, their limbs and
feet all crippled and crooked, born so."
Eld. Anna bought a $150 Liberty Bond; Hugo one for self and one for Victoria; Eld.
Caroline one, and Elder Josiah two or three.
29 April Hugo brought 100 Ibs. liberty flourand 100 Ibs. partrolled oats and part barley flour.
"I use some of each and some graham flour. No more entirely white bread--going to
soldiers. Everybody says my bread is A No. 1, they eat it justas well as the white,"
9 May "Jennie Wells (North Family) here to see me and find out how I make my bread as they
have been having very (pad luck gor quite a while. Couldn't eat the bread at all. So I
told her and showed her all I knew that might help her out and gave her 1/2 loaf to
take home. "
