1 Jan New Year's Day. Had peach sauce & doughnuts for breakfast. Two ducks & 4 young
roosters stuffed and roasted fordinner, celery gravy, dressing, cranberry sauce, mashed
potato, cold slaw, Xmas plum pudding with lemon sauce.
Supper - New Year's cakes & oranges - 3 apiece.

5 Jan. I came out of the bakeroom... have been there nine months with no help, .1prefer to
do it alone.

9 Jan. Eld. Anna put Laura Roland on the cars for Bennmgton, Vt. where she came from. They
felt she could not remain any longer; she is a burden to thefamily and simply has no
brains or intellectwhatever.

19 Jan. Lucy (Bowers) sick in bed all day.

22 Jan. Everybody that can is busyknitting, crocheting and sewing. Folks doing a lot of Red
Cross work* Made 30 outing shirts and 4 large heavy square shawls knit & crocheted to
be sent to the Belgians. Our family have done a great amount of Red Cross work which
of course is free, alsoEld. Anna has given & donated a vast amount in clothes, woolen
goods and money.

23 Jan. Lucy better. Mary (Dahm) & Marion are supposed to be in bakeroom but Mary has been
sick, so Pauline has been making pies but Eld. Anna has been buying their bread.

24 Jan. After supper Eld. Anna, Eld. Caroline (Tate), Lucy and 1 autoed to Albany to see A. G.
Fri. Fields Greater Minstrels at Harmanus Bleeker Hall. Have been on road 33 years. To
say it was great does not express it. It was a night offun and sweetest music. The house
was packed, every seat taken. Hugo took others the next afternoon - Ella Myer, Freida
Sipple, Grace Dahm, Geo. Duncan (Mary Dahm too sick to go) and he and his family &
Maggie Caldwell went Sat. night.

26 Jan. Anna (Goepper) was taken sick, Dr. Lothridge sent for.

29 Jan. She is stillsick in bed, Maggie & Eld. Anna caring for her. Doctor calls it gallstones
or gall bladder trouble.

30 Jan. Jennie Wells at North Family had 7 of her best laying hens stolen last night.

5 Feb. Anna is atlast able to go to dining room for meals.
Grace is very busy weaving rugs.

7 Feb. Drawing ice from pond - 11 inches thick.

12 Feb. Lucy's birthday, she is sick in bed with terrible headache.

13 Feb. Geo. Dahmexpects to build a garage for Eld. Josiah at Church Family.
Our folks (Eld.Caroline, Lucy, Mary, Susan, Eld. Anna & girls) have made for Red Cross
lately 25 baby slips, 200 laundry bags, 4 large heavy woolen shawls, 15 baby hoods, 6 pr
baby booties - for Belgain refugees.
