21 July Picked beans at Church Family & strung 90 bx. Eld Anna buying bread thru busiest and
heaviest bean harvest in order to let Anna string beans, except on Sat. when she does s
baking. "Barbara and I together can string 12 heaping boxes full a day; it takes 28 med
full boxes for a cooking." ' s/

24 July Eld Anna to North Family for day. "There have been r^umors for a long time of the con-
templation of breaking up the North Family on account of expenses. There are only 7 of
them and the cost of farm help is enormous, fora foreman alone $75 a month, and hired
help from $35 to $40 a month, and they keep several hired hands."

25 July "Maggie "complains" of feel ing some better, able to be up and around a I ittle. "
Everybody very busy. Our summer is veryshort.

28 July Eld Anna, Edna ( Edna Frank, Eld Anna's niece) and I auto to Albany & Schdy after supper ,
"stopped at LoudonvUIe to see the airplanes at Roosevelt Memorial Field."

29 July "Eld Anna to North Family this evening on business. She is selling some old furniture,
both up there and at home. "

1 Aug Eld Anna, Grace, Freida and the girls and hired men pick the beans; Deborah, Joanna,
Ella & Harry string here at home; and the rest ofus string at the Church. These are
what one may term 'strenuous times. 1 "

2 Aug Eld Anna, Freida, Grace, Lucy & Julia Stroebel and the girls topped 20 bu. beets in
Sat p.m. for canning Monday and washed them.

3 Aug Eld Anna, her niece and the Strobels take auto trip over Mohawk Trail, took lunch with
Sun them, had supper at Hancock, home 10:30 p.m.

5 Aug Peeled and put up 50 doz tomatoes in a.m., first canning for year - 40 doz for ChF,
10 doz forus.

6 Aug Eld Anna & Lucy spent p.m. over at North Family. Stronger gossip than ever of thefr
breaking up and the Ministry expected some time this month.

7 Aug Ricardo Beldenarrived last night at supper time from Enfield, Conn., where he works and
makes his home. He was once a Shaker and raised at Enfield but got into a peck of trouble
of some kindc He came to see this place, Eld Carol I ne & Lucy. He left this a.m.
"Ella Winship and Jennie Wells here all evening from North Family. Byron brought them
in his carriage. They brought us a bucket of blackberries. "

8 Aug Ministry arrive for dinner - Elders Walter Shepard and Arthur Bruce, Eldresses Sarah *-*:
Berger and Catherine Allen. They are here to announce on Sunday the change to take
place at North Family.

9 Aug Ministry call everyone to meeting room at 2 p.m. Say they think it "best forNorth Family
Sat to move here ajjthey would not go to the Ch F. and the Church did not want them. They
felt they would not be treated right at the ChF. We were all asked and, while the majority
were not so very anxious for the change, stillno one refused or was unwilling. The
Ministry thought it would be the cheapest and easiest way on account of their aged people,
quite a talk allaround, we were dismissed to go back to our work. They will live
