corn relish. Grace moved her clothes out of attic room at shop downstairs in her shop to
give North Family folks more room. Deborah moved out of her little room - Isabella
White expects to occupy it. They will all live on lower floor and have shops upstairs
except Hamilton who will have Ozias Bogert's old room on 2d floor. Byron will live
upstairs at men's house.
29 Aug Group from Hancock,, stay to supper & take Maggie Caldwell back with them for 3 weeks
to recuperate her health. Hamilton brought us 9 ]j;j cantaloup from his garden
30 Aug Mary killed & dressed 4 old hens and 3 young roosters for dinner tomorrow.
1 made bread and 4 3-layer coconut cakes. Men picked 125 bu, tomatoes.
Byron here all day h elping our folks move & getting shop ready for paper hangers.
1 Sept Beets all done for year. Eld Caroline & Mary canning elderberries & sw. cucumber pickles.
Mon Byron brought us 8 Ib. white clover honey in comb.
2 Sept School opens /Rena Landrigan the teacher. 7 pupils - 3 ours 7rest outsiders.
Hugo brought a load of furniture here from NF. Hamilton brought lotof cantaloupes.
4 Sept Geo. Duncan & Hugo go to Mt. Lebanon with truckload of old chairs forSarah Collins.
Peeling and canning tomatoes at Church Family every day.
6 Sept Hugo, Victoria, Geo. Duncan, Eld Josiah, Eld Anna, Grace Dahm & Anna go to Burnt
Sat Hills BaptistChurch for clambake supper. Cost $1.50, each had 15 clams, broth, coffee,
graham & white bread, chicken, corn, sweet & Irish potatoes, sliced tomatoes, cole slaw,
3 kinds of pie. Eld Anna and 1 each ate 25 clams. Beautiful warm, moonlit starry night.
On way home we stopped in Schdy & had ice cream and candy.
(Elder Josiah's brother-in-law was deacon in this church and his niece, Mrs. Jennings,
was very active.)
8 Sept Eld Anna & Ella Winship in to Albany to select wallpaper forsisters'rooms at shop,
Eld Josiah to order cans for canning, and I to get two back teeth pulled. Had gas, cost
$2, awful sick. In p.m. folks to ChF to peel tomatoes - 177bu.
10 Sept Plumber and paperhangers & Geo. Dahm all working at Sisters Shop getting it ready.
Canned goods selling very gast. Girls labelled 161 doz. canned goods after 3 p.m.
14 Sept Eld Anna and Brooks girls auto to Pittsfield,had dinner and supper at Hancock Shakers.
Sun Went to No. Adams to see John Martin, Brooks girls'uncle and guardian, but he never
showed up. He was notified they were coming especially to see him.
15 Sept Hugo drawing furniture from North Family all day. John Martin phoned to say he and
Uncle Sam were coming soon on a visit to see the Brooks girls. "We will see."
Eld Caroline & Mary canned 30 qts peaches.
16 Sept Drew cans from Albany for canning. Horses became frightened at rattling ofcan^s when
unloading, ran away and threw the hired hand, Charles, hurting his foot and shaking
him up badly. If ithadn't been for Hugo he mi ght have neen killed.
17 Sept Eld Caroline & Mary made 30 qts chili sauce. 1 made 13 large pies from one pumpkin.
1 send a basket lunch every day for our folks peeling tomatoes at ChF.
