18 Oct Visit from Canterbury Shakers. Elder Arthur & Irving Greenwood "bought a lot of Shaker
boxes (or carriers as theycall them) from our store."


20 Oct "We hear Maggie Caldweil's health is improving and she is able to help Frances quite a
bit in the office. She will not be home for a week yet.' Claims the pure air of the Berk-
shires has done wonders for her."


21 Oct Hamilton brought 5 bushels of large fine onions from NF; Hugo drew 2 loads of furniture
from NF to Sisters Shop.


22 Oct Eld Anna & Eleanor cleaning Maggie's room preparatory to her returning home. "She
says Maggie's improvement in health is such thatwe will all be surprised. No doubt we
will be. Let us hope so." I made 9 large deep pumpkin pies.


23 Oct I made bread and 8 mince pies. Eld Anna brought home 2 large cakes made at Freihofer's
new cake bakery.


24 Oct At 5:30 p.m. a car with 7 people arrived from Enfield Ct, to stay untilSunday to see Lucy
Fri & Carol ine. "Quite a surprise to us all ."

27 Oct Ella Winship, Isabelle White, Jennie, Hamilton & Lovina came to see their new home at
the shop. Isabelle didn't seem to like her room; she said it was too small and only had
one window. Lovina Dutcher was very much pleased.


30 Oct "A wealthy partyof five (a man, 3 ladies & a chauffeur) here from Boston to select out
old furniture from NF and here; stayed to dinner but paid well for it,also for furniture. "

1 Nov. Eld Anna & Eld Caroline have been up at NF all day, cleaning and doing necessary things.

2 Nov. Hugo took Eld Anna and I to Hancock in car tobring home Maggie Caldwell after 9 weeks.
Sun. Maggie's health seems much improved.

3 Nov Lucy and Eleanor working at NF all day.

5 Nov. Byron putting up stoves in SistersShop.

6 Nov Byron brought 16 hives of bees down from NF.

8 Nov. Eliza Willey, her daughter Eva and a lady friend were out for auto ride and Mrs. Willey's
car stalled on trolley trakcs. Car coming. Mrs. Willey jumped out and waved but
trolley struck car and smashed it against a p$le or tree, hurt Eva's back & broke her nose,
broke woman's arm and 3 ribs. As Mrs. Willey had no license to drive, she get nothing
from trolley company or no insurance - dead loss. Has left Mrs. Willey a nervous wreck,

11 Nov. I made bread and -10 mince pies.

12 Nov. I made 9 large deep pumpkin pies. Eld Anna asked Magg/'e to give up the canning
of the fruit but she sa idno. Mr. Spring of Boston paid $300 for old furniture from here
and $600 to NF.
